Goatsbeard, which is a member of the Rose family, grows as a tall perennial and can reach a height of 7 feet. Tiny cream colored flowers grow from long branched spikes above the leaves. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants; the male, pollen producing flowers being somewhat larger.

Goatsbeard blooms throughout July in moist woods, meadows, and along streams in the coast areas of southern Alaska.
